The BBB can help protect the consumer and facilitate settlement of consumer complaints. Consumers may also live in a location that has a city or county consumer protection office. If local assistance is not available, consumers can often find help at the state level. A good place to start is the state attorney general’s office. Other state agencies such as the insurance board may regulate certain types of business activities and handle consumer complaints. At the federal level, the Federal Trade Commission can often provide information or assistance to consumers.
